LeBron Honored for Field Goals Record

LeBron James was honored by the Lakers for breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time NBA field goals record during a special ceremony. The milestone adds another historic achievement to LeBron's legendary career. Despite the honor, LeBron missed Sunday's 110-97 win over the Knicks due to a left elbow contusion and arthritis in his left foot.

The record-breaking shot occurred on Thursday, March 5th, 2026, during a game against the Denver Nuggets. James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 15,837 career field goals with a fadeaway jumper in the first quarter, setting the new mark at 15,838. Abdul-Jabbar held the record for nearly four decades, a testament to his longevity and his signature skyhook shot. Karl Malone is a distant third on the all-time list with 13,528 career field goals. This field goal record is another jewel in LeBron's crown, as he already holds the title of the NBA's all-time leading scorer, a feat he achieved in February 2023, also passing Abdul-Jabbar. He is also the NBA's all-time leader in playoff points and the only player to have scored over 50,000 combined points in the regular season and playoffs. At 41 years old and in his 23rd NBA season, James continues to set records for longevity and sustained excellence. In addition to his scoring prowess, he ranks fourth all-time in assists and sixth in steals, showcasing his all-around game.
