Connamara Systems Upgrades Capital Markets Platform
Chicago-based Connamara Systems announced an enhancement to its ConnCentric capital markets integration platform. The update introduces a new Plugin Framework with advanced ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) capabilities, aimed at providing more flexibility for financial firms integrating various market data sources.
Connamara Systems was founded in 1998 by Jim Downs, who combined a 17-year career as an options and futures trader on Chicago's exchange floors with a background in electrical engineering and work at the CIA. He transitioned to software as trading moved from open outcry to screens, recognizing the need for engineers who understood market dynamics. The firm is a co-originator and official maintainer of QuickFIX, the open-source engine for the Financial Information eXchange (FIX) protocol. The FIX protocol has become the standard for electronic communications between financial institutions, and Connamara's deep involvement highlights its foundational role in capital markets technology. The new platform enhancement centers on ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), a critical process for financial firms that pulls data from numerous systems, cleans and standardizes it, and prepares it for analysis and reporting. In finance, ETL is essential for everything from risk management and regulatory compliance to algorithmic trading strategies. By introducing a plugin framework, Connamara allows firms to customize and extend their data workflows without altering the core software. This architectural approach is crucial in enterprise systems for maintaining stability while allowing for bespoke integrations, such as connecting modern platforms with legacy infrastructure or supporting proprietary software. The ConnCentric platform itself is designed as a "configurable, containerized adapter," which simplifies the complex web of connections that financial firms must manage. The goal is to move the management of these connections from core engineering teams to operations, streamlining the process of integrating with different trading venues and data feeds. This update reflects a broader industry trend of transforming fragmented, custom-coded integrations into managed, scalable assets. Connamara's President, Mike Gatny, is actively involved in shaping these industry standards, serving on the FIX Trading Community's Global Technical Committee.
