Trive Capital Acquires Rolfson Oil

Dallas-based private equity firm Trive Capital has announced its acquisition of Rolfson Oil, a distributor of fuel, oils, and lubricants primarily serving the energy sector. The deal also includes the Flint Logistics Group.

- Rolfson Oil was founded in 1985 by Bill Unser and Royce Rolfson in Watford City, North Dakota, initially providing fueling services to the agricultural industry before shifting to serve the oil boom in the Bakken Shale basin. - Since being purchased by Tyton Holdings in 2011, Rolfson Oil has expanded from four employees to over four hundred and now operates in North Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana. - The acquisition of Flint Logistics Group, an Oklahoma City-based freight carrier, is intended to add scale to Rolfson's operations in Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. - Beyond fuel distribution, Rolfson Oil also provides storage tanks and has created the BATBOX dual-fuel onsite fueling system to service both diesel and natural gas-powered fracking fleets. - The acquirer, Trive Capital, is a Dallas-based private equity firm with more than $4 billion in capital commitments that invests in a variety of sectors, including energy services. - Rolfson's CEO, Jason Burger, stated that the partnership with Trive will support the company's next phase of growth and help accelerate its strategic initiatives. - In an unrelated but relevant matter, Trive Capital and two of its other portfolio companies in the fuel infrastructure sector were the subject of an antitrust lawsuit filed in March 2025, which alleged anti-competitive practices.
