Zora and Base to Expand to Solana Ecosystem

Layer-2 solution Base is reportedly leaving the Optimism OP stack to build its own solution, according to a recent Bankless podcast. As part of this strategic shift, both Base and the NFT platform Zora are expanding to Solana. This migration of established protocols signals changing partnerships within the broader crypto ecosystem and could bring significant developer and user activity to Solana.

- Zora's new "attention markets" on Solana allow users to trade tokens tied to internet trends, memes, and cultural moments. Anyone can create a new trend market for a fee of 1 SOL to discourage spam. - Early examples of tradable trends on Zora's Solana platform include markets for "longevity," "cats," "dogs," "bitcoin," and "aigirlfriend." The platform is designed to leverage Solana's high transaction speeds and low fees for rapid, high-frequency trading of these trends. - The native ZORA token saw a 6.2% price increase to $0.022 following the announcement of the Solana expansion, even as the broader crypto market saw a decline. - In a move to further integrate AI with blockchain, the cross-chain protocol deBridge has launched a Model Context Protocol server. This allows AI agents and developer tools like Claude and Copilot to execute swaps and multi-step on-chain flows between EVM chains and Solana. - This new primitive from deBridge could enable advanced applications such as algorithmic portfolio rebalancing and "Vibe Trading," where a user specifies a desired outcome and an AI agent executes the necessary on-chain actions. - Base's primary motivation for leaving the Optimism OP stack is to gain more autonomy and accelerate its upgrade cycle. The plan is to move to a unified, Base-operated stack to reduce dependencies on multiple external teams. - While moving to its own stack, Base will remain compatible with the OP Stack specification during a transitional period to ensure a smooth migration for node operators and developers. - The migration of established protocols is happening as Solana is preparing for significant technical upgrades in 2026, including "Alpenglow" and "Firedancer." These upgrades are expected to dramatically increase transaction speeds, improve network security, and reduce finality times to as low as 100-150 milliseconds.
