City College of San Francisco is staging Jonathan Spector’s black comedy “Good, Better, Best, Bested” this weekend at the Taube Atrium Theater in the War Memorial Building. (eventbrite.com) The performances are scheduled for Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, at 401 Van Ness Ave. The Eventbrite listing says the show runs about 2 hours and 30 minutes and is recommended for ages 12 and up. (eventbrite.com) CCSF Theatre Arts describes the play as a black comedy set over one night on the Las Vegas Strip, with bachelorettes, magicians, gamblers, tourists, and “an earth-shattering event” unfolding far away. The college posted the production in its Spring 2026 audition notice months before the performances. (ccsf.edu) The production puts a community-college cast inside a script by a Bay Area playwright whose profile rose after “Eureka Day” won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. CCSF’s audition page and Jonathan Spector’s New Play Exchange profile both identify him as the writer of “Good. Better. Best. Bested.” (ccsf.edu) (newplayexchange.org) The play itself is not new. New Play Exchange lists development readings in 2015 and 2016, a Bay Area Playwrights Festival workshop in 2016, and a professional production by Custom Made Theatre Company in 2018. (newplayexchange.org) For CCSF, the show also fits the department’s push to train students in performance and production at off-campus Bay Area venues. The department says its program, founded in 1947, sends students to venues including the Taube Atrium Theater and Z Space. (ccsf.edu) The event page says tickets are being handled through Eventbrite by CCSF Theatre, while Eddie’s List included the production in its April 20-26 Bay Area events roundup. That places the show in the same week-by-week local listings ecosystem that many small arts groups rely on to fill seats. (eventbrite.com) (eddies-list.com) The curtain goes up Saturday and Sunday, with CCSF bringing a dark Las Vegas ensemble piece into Civic Center for a two-night run. (eventbrite.com)
