The expansion increases the museum’s footprint by 50%, adding a new eight-story building designed by OMA / Shohei Shigematsu. This nearly doubles the exhibition space and provides more space for the museum's community programs. The project, which began in 2019, faced pandemic-related delays but is now back on track for its 2026 reopening. It aims to create a more inviting and accessible experience for visitors. The expansion also includes a new education center, public forum, and improved vertical circulation. These additions will allow the New Museum to better serve its growing audience and expand its artistic and educational initiatives.
