Lincoln Center Gets 140-Foot NYC Portrait

The Lincoln Center Arrival Tableau is part of a larger, ambitious arts program at the new Terminal 6 of John F. Kennedy International Airport, which is slated to open in phases beginning in 2026. This 140-foot mural is one of several installations commissioned through a collaboration between the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the terminal's developer JFK Millennium Partners, and four of New York City's most prominent cultural institutions. The other institutions contributing permanent art installations to the terminal's "museum row" in the arrivals hall include the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the American Museum of Natural History. MoMA is collaborating with artist Yoko Ono on a piece inspired by her "PEACE is POWER" work. The overall arts program for Terminal 6, with a budget of $22 million, is curated by the Public Art Fund and will feature a total of 19 site-specific permanent installations by various contemporary artists. Additionally, the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning will curate rotating exhibitions featuring local artists from Queens. The Lincoln Center mural itself is described as a "visual symphony" that will weave together scenes of music, dance, opera, and theater from its iconic campus and the surrounding city streets. The goal is to present arriving international travelers with a powerful first impression of New York City as a global hub of creativity and culture. The construction of the $4.2 billion Terminal 6 is part of a larger, $19 billion transformation of JFK Airport.
