Perplexity Debuts 'Personal Computer' AI Agent
Perplexity launched "Personal Computer," an always-on AI agent for Mac mini that accesses files/apps securely with privacy safeguards announced.
The "Personal Computer" is designed to function as a user's digital proxy, operating continuously to orchestrate tasks and tools from any device. It merges local files with Perplexity Computer, working around the clock. This new system runs on a dedicated Mac mini and connects to Perplexity's secure servers. It provides continuous, local access to a Mac's files and apps, enabling Perplexity Computer and the Comet Assistant to use and modify them as needed. Security measures include requiring user approval for sensitive actions, logging all actions, and providing a kill switch for immediate control. While the Personal Computer runs locally, the AI processing occurs on Perplexity's secure servers, according to CEO Aravind Srinivas. The Personal Computer is an extension of Perplexity Computer, which was introduced last month as a cloud-based AI agent. It decomposes goals into subtasks and uses sub-agents to complete them. This system coordinates 19 AI models to choose the best one for each task. Interested users can join a waitlist for access to the Personal Computer. This development aligns with the Mac mini's increasing popularity for AI applications.
