Prologis Spain Expands ESG Push
Prologis Spain is accelerating ESG initiatives with a 10.5 MWp solar project partnering with ACCIONA, targeting net-zero by 2040. The company launched PARKlife wellness programs, a Logistics Training initiative, and mobilized 2,600 volunteers for Impact Day community service across their Spanish portfolio.
The partnership with ACCIONA extends beyond simply installing solar panels; it aims to create solar communities. The energy generated will not only supply Prologis' customers but will also be available to local residents within a two-kilometer radius through a shared self-consumption model, allowing them to access 100% renewable energy and potentially reduce their electricity bills. The initial solar installations are slated for Penedès in Barcelona (2.5MWp) and San Fernando de Henares in Madrid (3MWp). These two sites alone are projected to prevent the emission of 3,300 tonnes of CO2 each year. For this 10-year project, Prologis will own the solar communities, while ACCIONA Energía will manage the installation, operation, and maintenance. The PARKlife initiative materializes in Spain through tangible wellness and community-building events at its logistics parks. For instance, Prologis Park Alcalá, just outside Madrid, has installed Padel Courts for employee tournaments and hosts activities like a running club and nutritional workshops. Seasonal events, such as Hawaiian-themed summer kick-offs with food and games, take place across parks in Alcalá, San Fernando, Coslada, and Barcelona. Beyond environmental and wellness programs, Prologis Spain engages in direct community support during crises. Following the 2023 earthquake in Turkey and Syria, the company provided warehouse space at no cost in Prologis Park Coslada. This enabled a customer to receive, sort, and palletize goods for shipment to the disaster area.
