H Mart to Open Largest U.S. Store in Fremont
The popular Korean supermarket chain H Mart is preparing to open its largest U.S. location in Fremont. The new store will feature a wide selection of Korean and other Asian groceries, cementing the city's status as a growing culinary destination.
The new H Mart will occupy a two-story, 100,000-square-foot space, making it the largest in the United States and representing the biggest investment in the company's history. It is taking over a former Kohl's department store building at 43782 Christy St. in the Pacific Commons Shopping Center. Construction is slated to begin in late 2026, with a projected opening in late 2027. This location will be a flagship, introducing a new multi-level prototype for the company that goes beyond a traditional grocery store experience. The ground floor will house the main grocery store, while the second level is dedicated to a major food hall. This dining and community space will feature a mix of fast-casual eateries, full-service restaurants, a bar, and other entertainment offerings. The store's location in Fremont aligns with the city's demographics, where residents of Asian descent make up over 62% of the population. The city is already home to another Korean grocery store, Mega Mart, which opened in 2022. This will be H Mart's fourth location in the Bay Area, adding to stores in San Francisco, San Jose, and an upcoming store in Dublin. The Pacific Commons shopping center also hosts other major retailers like Target, Costco, and Lowe's, making it a significant retail hub.
