LA Marathon turnout
The Los Angeles Marathon drew more than 27,000 participants this spring, a reminder that big-city road races remain massively popular and community-driven. Organizers billed the event as a celebration of culture and diversity across its course. (thecorsaironline.com)
The 41st ASICS Los Angeles Marathon ran on Sunday, March 8, 2026, beginning at Dodger Stadium and finishing near Avenue of the Stars in Century City on the "Stadium-to-the-Stars" course. American Nathan Martin claimed the men’s title with a timed finish of 2:11:16.50 after overtaking Kenya’s Michael Kimani Kamau in a photo finish that organizers called the closest in the race’s history. Kenya’s Priscah Cherono, 45, led nearly the entire women’s race and crossed the line in an unofficial 2:25:18.31, securing the $10,000 Marathon Chase bonus for first overall. Organizers said the race doubled as a major fundraiser, featuring 129 official charity partners and raising more than $4.5 million for participating causes. Event sustainability efforts included a renewed partnership with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power that tapped city water at 15 of 19 hydration stations to cut single-use plastic and helped the marathon retain Evergreen Status from the Council for Responsible Sport. The McCourt Foundation-produced race sold out early and offered additional charity entry spots via social channels, while broadcast partners NBC4 and Telemundo 52 carried coverage under a multi-year deal running through at least 2029. The event also highlighted a policy gap: the nonbinary division’s top finishers received medals but no prize money because the race’s elite prize structure does not include a nonbinary elite category, a point raised by repeat nonbinary champion Cal Calamia.
