João Pedro Brazil World Cup Push

Chelsea striker João Pedro is enjoying a "special" first season and is being tipped as Brazil's top choice for the No. 9 role at this summer's World Cup. He's scored more goals than any Premier League player except Erling Haaland this season.

João Pedro's push for a World Cup spot comes after a high-profile £55m transfer to Chelsea in July 2025. In his debut season, he has already scored 21 goals and provided six assists in 42 appearances for the club. His senior international career with Brazil is still in its early stages. The 24-year-old forward made his debut for the national team on November 16, 2023, coming on as a substitute in a World Cup qualifier against Colombia. He currently has six caps for the senior team. The competition for Brazil's central striker role is intense. João Pedro is contending with established names like Tottenham's Richarlison, as well as emerging talents such as Endrick and Vitor Roque for the coveted No. 9 shirt. Under manager Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil is preparing for the World Cup with upcoming friendlies against France and Croatia in March. These matches will be a crucial opportunity for Pedro to solidify his claim ahead of the tournament's opening games in June.
