BYD: Nine-Minute EV Battery Charging
BYD unveiled new tech for EV batteries that can fully charge in nine minutes, a major step to kill range anxiety [https://daoinsights.com/news/byd-nine-minute-ev-battery-charging/].
The new charging tech, called "Shenxing," will be available in a mass-produced EV in China in the first quarter of 2025. BYD says Shenxing batteries can add 400 km (248 miles) of range in 10 minutes. Shenxing is the world's first 4C supercharging LFP battery, according to BYD. LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries are known for their safety and lower cost compared to other battery chemistries. BYD is not the only company working on fast charging. Xpeng claims its G9 SUV can add 200 km (124 miles) in five minutes using its own charging technology.
