David Chang's Fuku Hits Miami
David Chang's Fuku fried chicken brand landed its first standalone South Florida location in Coral Gables. The opening brings Chang's bold, iconic flavors to the Miami market and expands his casual food empire. This marks a significant expansion for the Momofuku founder's fried chicken concept.
Fuku's journey to Coral Gables began with a secret, off-menu fried chicken sandwich at David Chang's Momofuku Noodle Bar in New York City. The sandwich gained a cult following, leading to the first Fuku location in the East Village in 2015. The star of the menu is the "OG Sando," a spicy fried chicken sandwich with pickles and Fuku mayo on a butter-toasted potato roll. Other variations include the "Sweet & Spicy Sando" with a glazed chicken thigh and pickled daikon, and a "Miso Ranch and Slaw Sando." Beyond sandwiches, the menu features waffle fries, chicken tenders, and salads. For dessert, Fuku is collaborating with Christina Tosi's renowned Milk Bar for cookies and local bakery Fookem's Fabulous for other treats. While this is the first standalone Fuku in South Florida, the brand is no stranger to the Miami market. Fuku has operated concessions at Hard Rock Stadium, the F1 Miami Grand Prix, and the Miami Open tennis tournament. The Coral Gables restaurant marks a strategic shift for Fuku, which has primarily focused on growth in stadiums and arenas, with 15 such locations nationwide. The move signifies a return to a neighborhood-focused, brick-and-mortar model. Fuku's expansion in South Florida is set to continue, with another location planned for West Palm Beach by the end of 2026.
