Decentralized GPU Network Aims to Power Spatial Streaming

Mawari has launched a decentralized GPU network designed to provide scalable streaming for spatial computing. The network aims to solve the massive rendering demands of XR and AR content, potentially providing the infrastructure needed for high-fidelity immersive kids' entertainment on platforms like Vision Pro.

Mawari, founded in 2017, is addressing the immense computational power required for spatial computing by building a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) of GPU providers. This network aims to handle the heavy lifting of rendering and streaming complex 3D content in real-time to devices like the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3. The company has raised a total of $17.3 million, with a recent $10.8 million funding round to scale its network. The core of Mawari's strategy is to bypass the limitations of centralized cloud providers like AWS for the massive compute demands of 3D streaming. The network operates through community-run nodes, where individuals and data centers can contribute their GPU power in exchange for rewards, a model designed to be more scalable and cost-effective. This approach is designed to reduce bandwidth usage by up to 80%. Key investors include Animoca Brands, Samsung Next, and Blockchange Ventures, indicating a strong interest from both web3 and traditional tech sectors. The company's client list already includes major brands like Netflix, BMW, and KDDI, showcasing early adoption of its technology. Mawari's Spatial Streaming SDK integrates with popular development engines like Unity and Unreal, simplifying the process for creators to build immersive experiences. The network is being built on Solana and will be tokenized to support the global network of nodes. Helium co-founder Sean Carey has joined Mawari's board, bringing significant expertise from the DePIN space. Mawari plans to launch its mainnet in the fourth quarter of 2024 across three regions, targeting use cases in engineering education and sports entertainment.
