In its first year under Michelin coverage, Boston picked up six Bib Gourmand awards — recognition for restaurants that deliver good food at good value in the newly evaluated city. (hot969boston.com)
Boston landed six Bib Gourmand awards in Michelin’s first year covering the city and nearby communities. (guide.michelin.com) The six restaurants are Bar Volpe and Fox & The Knife in Boston, Jahunger, Pagu, and Sumiao Hunan Kitchen in Cambridge, and Mahaniyom in Brookline. Michelin announced the Greater Boston selections on November 18, 2025, at a ceremony in Philadelphia. (meetboston.com) Michelin says a Bib Gourmand marks restaurants that offer “good quality food for a good value,” a category separate from one-, two-, and three-star ratings. In Greater Boston’s first guide, Michelin also gave one star to Three 1 One Omakase and listed 19 more restaurants as recommended. (guide.michelin.com) (meetboston.com) Boston only joined Michelin’s Northeast Cities edition in May 2025, when Michelin, Meet Boston, and the Cambridge Office for Tourism confirmed the expansion. The coverage area extends beyond Boston proper to Cambridge, Somerville, and communities within the Route 95 and Route 128 corridor. (bostonmagazine.com) That made the 2025 guide the first Michelin test for a region that had long been outside the company’s U.S. maps, even as New York City, Chicago, and Washington, District of Columbia, were already in the Northeast Cities edition. Boston and Philadelphia were the two new additions in that 2025 expansion. (bostonmagazine.com) The six Bibs also show where Michelin found value in Greater Boston: two Italian restaurants in South Boston, two Chinese and Asian-leaning spots in Cambridge, one Spanish-Japanese-influenced restaurant in Cambridge, and one Thai restaurant in Brookline. Michelin’s listings price Fox & The Knife, Jahunger, Pagu, Sumiao Hunan Kitchen, and Mahaniyom at two dollar signs, while Bar Volpe carries three. Akunowicz told WCVB that she and her team were “just blown away” by the recognition. (wcvb.com) Meet Boston said it began working with Michelin in May 2025 as part of a tourism push tied to the region’s dining scene. Michelin says the marketing partnerships with tourism boards do not control restaurant selections, which are made by anonymous inspectors. (meetboston.com) (bostonmagazine.com) For diners, the Bib list is Michelin’s cheaper entry point into the new Boston guide: six places, spread across Boston, Cambridge, and Brookline, where inspectors said the food and the bill both held up.
