Wellsley Farms Salmon Recalled Over Listeria Risk
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall of one lot of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon. The product, sold at BJ’s Wholesale Club, was recalled due to potential contamination with listeria monocytogenes.
The recalled product is specifically the 2-pound bags of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon with lot number 3896 and UPC code 888670025963. This specific lot was sold between January 31 and February 7, 2026, at BJ's Wholesale Club stores in seven states: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The potential contamination was discovered after a random sample collected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration tested positive for *Listeria monocytogenes*. The distributor, Slade Gorton & Co., Inc. of Waltham, Massachusetts, is investigating the source of the contamination. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. The salmon in question was farmed in Norway and processed in Poland before being distributed in the United States. BJ's is directly notifying members who may have purchased the affected product. Consumers who have the recalled salmon are advised not to eat it and can call 1-888-628-0730 for a full refund and disposal instructions. *Listeria monocytogenes* can survive and grow even in refrigeration and freezing temperatures. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms like fever, headache, nausea, and diarrhea. However, the infection can be particularly serious for pregnant women, newborns, adults over 65, and people with weakened immune systems, potentially leading to life-threatening complications. Symptoms of a more severe infection can include a stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. It can take up to 70 days after exposure for symptoms of listeriosis to develop.
