Apple HomePad rumor
- Rumors say Apple may release a tabletop Home Hub or HomePad with a roughly 7-inch display as a smart-home controller. (rswebsols.com) - Coverage links the device to a broader push into privacy-focused, locally controlled home platforms under new leadership speculation. ( ) - The rumor remains unconfirmed but would fill a perceived gap in Apple’s first-party smart-home hardware lineup. ( )
Apple is still rumored to be building a small smart-home display, but Apple has not announced any such device. (bloomberg.com) Bloomberg reported in November 2024 that Apple was preparing a wall-mounted home display, code-named J490, with support for appliance control, videoconferencing and Apple Intelligence. In March 2026, Bloomberg said the product had a 7-inch screen, a USB-C power port and a silver aluminum design, but had been postponed again. (bloomberg.com, bloomberg.com) The basic idea is simple: Apple already lets a HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV act as a home hub, which means a device in the house can run automations and control accessories when you are away. Apple’s Home app also says those devices unlock remote access and broader smart-home control. (support.apple.com, apple.com) A dedicated screen would give Apple something it does not sell today: a first-party control panel for lights, locks, cameras and video calls that sits in the kitchen, hallway or on a wall. That would put Apple closer to the smart-display category already occupied by Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub devices, a gap Apple has left open while selling speakers and set-top boxes instead. (bloomberg.com, support.apple.com, apple.com) The software piece is also part of the rumor trail. Bloomberg reported in October 2024 that Apple was developing a homeOS platform built on tvOS as part of a broader smart-home push, and later tied the display to Apple Intelligence features. (bloomberg.com, bloomberg.com) Apple’s existing home products already emphasize standards and local networking. Apple support documents say HomePod mini, HomePod and Apple TV can serve as hubs, and that Thread border routers and Matter support are part of how accessories stay reachable for automations and remote control. (support.apple.com, support.apple.com, support.apple.com) The release timing has moved repeatedly. Bloomberg first said Apple could announce the device as early as March 2025, then reported in March 2026 that Siri delays had pushed it back again because the assistant is a central part of the interface. (bloomberg.com, bloomberg.com) That leaves the “HomePad” name in rumor territory too. Apple does not list any product by that name on its HomePod or Home pages, and the company’s current lineup still centers on HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K and the Home app. (apple.com, apple.com, support.apple.com) For now, the clearest picture is a delayed Apple smart display that would turn existing Home hub functions into a dedicated screen. Until Apple puts it onstage, the device’s name, launch date and final feature set remain unconfirmed. (bloomberg.com, apple.com)
