Major League Volleyball Hires First Commissioner
Major League Volleyball has appointed Jaime Weston as its first-ever Commissioner. The move marks a pivotal moment for the three-year-old league as it seeks to establish a new era for professional women's volleyball in the U.S.
Weston arrives with a deep background in sports and entertainment, having previously served as Chief Commercial Officer for USA Volleyball and spending over 15 years as a marketing executive at the NFL. At the NFL, she was responsible for brand strategy, advertising, and fan engagement. Her appointment comes after a period of significant consolidation in the U.S. professional volleyball scene. In August 2025, Major League Volleyball merged with the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF), uniting the two entities under the MLV brand for the 2026 season. The merger, which valued the combined leagues at over $325 million, created a single, eight-team league featuring former PVF franchises. This move aimed to solidify the professional landscape, which also includes other leagues like League One Volleyball (LOVB) and Athletes Unlimited (AU). The league is in its third season, a continuation of the Pro Volleyball Federation's timeline which began play in 2024. The unified MLV now includes teams in Atlanta, Columbus, Dallas, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Omaha, Orlando, and San Diego. Ownership in the league includes prominent figures such as the DeVos family, owners of the Orlando Magic, and Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé. Olympic beach volleyball champion Kerri Walsh Jennings and recording artist Jason Derulo are also among the founding partners and investors. Before the merger, Major League Volleyball had been preparing to launch in 2026 with over $100 million in committed funding. The Omaha Supernovas, a successful franchise from the PVF known for high attendance, were slated to be a founding team in the original MLV. The league has demonstrated strong fan interest, with nearly 400,000 fans attending matches in the PVF's inaugural season. One televised All-Star match drew a peak viewership of 445,000 on CBS. Looking ahead, MLV plans to expand, with new franchises in Washington D.C., Northern California, and Minnesota set to join in 2027.
