Michelin Chef Opens High-End Bagel Shop in SF

Christopher Kostow, the Michelin-lauded chef from The Restaurant at Meadowood, has opened Loveski Deli in San Francisco. The new spot is already being praised for bringing some of the Bay Area's best bagels to the city, adding to the region's high-end casual dining scene.

Before his foray into bagels, Christopher Kostow earned 3 Michelin stars as the executive chef at The Restaurant at Meadowood in Napa Valley. This acclaimed restaurant was tragically destroyed in the 2020 Glass Fire and has yet to be rebuilt. Kostow is also behind The Charter Oak in St. Helena and Ciccio in Yountville with his wife and business partner, Martina. The name "Loveski" is a tribute to Kostow's family name before it was changed at Ellis Island. The deli is described as a "Jew-ish" concept, blending traditional elements with California sensibilities and influences from Martina Kostow's Thai heritage. The first Loveski opened in Napa's Oxbow Public Market in 2022, followed by a second in Larkspur in 2023. Loveski's bagels, which won the San Francisco Chronicle's blind taste test, are made from a 30-year-old sourdough starter and are boiled in honey, a nod to Montreal-style preparation. The San Francisco location at 499 Jackson Street opened on March 5, 2026, in a space formerly occupied by Postscript Cafe. The new location leans more into a grab-and-go market and coffee shop vibe, aiming to be the "world's coolest bodega." While many Postscript offerings remain, the menu introduces San Francisco-exclusive items like a pastrami breakfast burrito with a smashed latke, bone broth, and various bowls and wraps.
