Cole Hocker Stays Unbeaten by Hair
Olympic champion Cole Hocker narrowly maintained his unbeaten streak at the USA Indoor Championships, clinching the men's 3,000m title in a thrilling three-way sprint. Hocker's victory secures his place at the upcoming World Indoor Championships in Poland, further solidifying his status as one of the nation's top middle-distance runners.
The photo-finish victory saw Cole Hocker clock in at 7:39.25, a mere three-hundredths of a second ahead of Yared Nuguse (7:39.28) and four-hundredths clear of Nico Young (7:39.29). This razor-thin margin in a tactical race secured his spot on Team USA. Hocker's unbeaten streak at the USATF Indoor Championships remains intact. His history at the event includes winning both the 1500m and 3000m in 2022, and another 1500m title in 2024. The race in Staten Island, New York, was a battle of tactics, with Hocker leading for the first mile before the pace intensified. Nuguse made a move for the lead with 500 meters remaining, followed by a surge from Young with 300 meters to go, setting up the dramatic final sprint to the finish line. Next up, Hocker will represent the United States at the World Athletics Indoor Championships. The global competition is set to take place from March 20-22 in Toruń, Poland.
