Oakland Teacher Killed in Downtown Bar Shooting
Latetia Bobo, a 33-year-old English arts teacher, was killed in a mass shooting at a bar in Downtown Oakland. The incident has sparked community outrage as police continue to search for the shooter or shooters involved.
The shooting that killed Latetia Bobo occurred around 3:30 a.m. at EZ's Lounge on 14th Street, following the popular First Friday street festival. In addition to Bobo, a 25-year-old man was also killed, and five other people were injured in the gunfire. Investigators believe the seven victims were innocent bystanders, caught in the crossfire of an argument that broke out inside the bar. Police have detained several individuals and recovered multiple firearms at the scene, but have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the shooting. Bobo was a cherished eighth-grade English language arts teacher at Caliber Beta Academy in San Pablo. The school described her as an "incredible educator and an even more incredible human being" who brought "unmistakable light to our campus." In her honor, the school canceled classes on Monday to allow the community time to process the tragedy. Beyond her work as an educator, Bobo was a multi-talented artist, known for her work as a writer, singer, and actress. She was also deeply involved in her church community, leading Bible studies and founding a film production company. Friends and family remember her as a person who valued relationships and community, with one family member describing her as an "amazing sister." Tributes on social media highlighted her kindness, loyalty, and the lasting positive impact she had on those she met. A parent at her school remembered her for a smile that could "get you through the day."
