Art Basel 2026 Features 290 Galleries

Art Basel's flagship Swiss fair will feature 290 galleries from 43 countries June 18-21, including 21 first-time participants. The main Galleries sector alone has 232 exhibitors, confirming the fair's status as the world's leading showcase for contemporary and historical art.

- The flagship Swiss fair has grown significantly since its first edition in 1970, which hosted 90 galleries from 10 countries and saw 16,000 visitors. In 2019, prior to the pandemic, the fair attracted approximately 93,000 attendees. - The fair is organized into distinct sectors, each with a specific focus. These include the "Feature" sector for curated historical presentations, "Statements" for solo projects by emerging artists, and "Unlimited" for large-scale installations. - A newer section, "Premiere," is dedicated to showcasing works created within the last five years and will be expanded to 17 presentations in the 2026 edition. - The event's "Parcours" sector extends beyond the exhibition halls, staging site-specific sculptures, interventions, and performances in public spaces and historic sites throughout the city of Basel. - Art Basel also holds annual fairs in Miami Beach, Hong Kong, and Paris, and is launching a new event in Doha, Qatar, in February 2026, extending its global reach. - High-value sales are a hallmark of the fair, with past editions seeing multi-million dollar transactions for works by renowned artists such as Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, and Louise Bourgeois. - The main event anchors a city-wide art week, with a number of other art fairs, including Design Miami, Liste, and the Basel Social Club, taking place concurrently.
