Twin Knob Trail Offers 6.85-Mile Challenge

Hikers are sharing details of the Twin Knob Trail Head to Twin Mountains near Lake Wedington, featuring 6.85 miles with 636 feet of elevation gain. The trail offers scenic mountain views and has been praised for excellent weather conditions during recent hikes.

- The trail is situated within the Lake Wedington Recreation Area, which was constructed in the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. - While used for hiking, the trail is also rated as a difficult, "black diamond" singletrack for mountain biking due to technical features such as rock gardens and rock faces. - The path runs through the 16,000-acre Wedington Wildlife Management Area, which is part of the Ozark National Forest and cooperatively managed by the U.S. Forest Service and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. - The trail is one of several in a larger network accessible from the recreation area, which also includes the Western Don Loop and Twisted Pines trails. - The destination "knobs" are part of the Twin Mountains formation, with both the Upper and Lower Knob offering views of the Illinois River Valley and the surrounding Ozarks. - The adjacent 102-acre Lake Wedington offers fishing, swimming, and boating with motors up to 10 horsepower. A former world-record Grass Carp weighing 80 pounds was once caught in the lake.
