SiteGround Launches AI App Builder for SMBs
Web hosting platform SiteGround has launched Coderick AI, a new tool designed to let small businesses build custom software without deep technical expertise. The move aims to remove the financial and technical barriers to custom app development.
SiteGround's new tool operates on a principle called "vibe coding," a term coined by former Tesla AI leader Andrej Karpathy. This approach allows users to describe their desired website or application in natural language, with the AI generating the design, code, and database structure in response. The goal is to shift the user's role from a hands-on coder to a prompter who guides the AI's creation process. Unlike many AI builders that only generate code or layouts, Coderick AI is an all-in-one platform that bundles the entire workflow from creation to launch. Each project is built directly on SiteGround's hosting infrastructure, which includes automatic database setup, version control, and security features from the start. This integrated approach aims to eliminate the friction users often face when needing to separately manage hosting, deployment, and security after the initial build. The platform is designed to create a wide range of production-ready applications, not just prototypes. Examples include portfolio sites, CRMs, client portals, inventory trackers, and booking platforms. For instance, a user could prompt the AI to "Create a project dashboard for a small marketing team to track tasks, deadlines, campaign progress, and client approval status." SiteGround's CEO, Nikolay Todorov, has stated that the tool is designed for anyone with an idea to bring it online without needing coding skills. The platform is entering a rapidly growing low-code and no-code market, competing with established players like Bubble and Softr. While Bubble is known for its extensive customization for complex apps, and Softr for its user-friendliness with simpler projects, SiteGround aims to differentiate Coderick with its integrated hosting and security. Future plans for Coderick AI include the addition of an inline editor for more direct manipulation of content, the ability to integrate with third-party APIs, and a code export feature. This suggests a roadmap toward providing more flexibility and control for users as their projects grow in complexity.
