OpenAI Secures $110B at $730B Valuation

OpenAI has closed a massive new funding round, raising $110 billion at a staggering $730 billion valuation. The deal cements the company's position as a foundational layer of the AI economy and provides a massive war chest to expand its global reach and infrastructure.

This latest funding round is the largest in venture capital history, with strategic investments from Amazon ($50 billion), Nvidia ($30 billion), and SoftBank ($30 billion). The capital infusion dramatically surpasses OpenAI's previous record-setting $40 billion round in 2025. The deal includes significant strategic partnerships beyond just capital. Amazon Web Services will become the exclusive third-party cloud provider for OpenAI's Frontier enterprise platform. Meanwhile, the deal with Nvidia secures next-generation inference computing power for OpenAI, a critical component for scaling its AI models. This valuation jump is steep, rising from a $29 billion valuation in early 2023 to $500 billion in October 2025, now landing at $730 billion pre-money. The new post-money valuation of $840 billion solidifies OpenAI's position as one of the most valuable private companies globally, ahead of SpaceX. The massive investment is earmarked to fuel immense infrastructure needs, with OpenAI projecting a total compute spend of around $600 billion by 2030. This figure was reportedly revised down from an earlier, more aggressive projection of $1.4 trillion. On the revenue side, OpenAI projects earnings to exceed $280 billion by 2030, with contributions split almost evenly between its consumer and enterprise services. The company's user base has grown to over 900 million weekly active users, with more than 50 million paying consumer subscribers. Microsoft, an early and significant backer, maintains a substantial stake in OpenAI. Following a restructuring in 2025, Microsoft's investment was valued at approximately $135 billion for a 27% stake in the for-profit public benefit corporation. Microsoft's initial $1 billion investment in 2019 was seen as a high-risk bet at the time. This funding round dwarfs others in the AI space. For comparison, rival Anthropic recently raised $30 billion at a $380 billion valuation, and Elon Musk's xAI raised over $10 billion for a $200 billion valuation. The sheer scale of capital flowing into top AI firms highlights a significant concentration of investment in the sector.
