(kron4.com) The encounter began at 8:38 a.m. on April 20 near Industrial Drive and South Grimmer Boulevard, where patrol officers stopped a man police described as suspicious. Officers then saw the handle of a gun protruding from his clothing, Fremont police said. (kron4.com) Police said the man ran when officers tried to detain him, triggering a foot chase through an industrial area. During the pursuit, he ran through barbed wire, and officers set up a containment perimeter around nearby businesses. (kron4.com) Bystanders then told officers the man may have jumped into a garbage dumpster on Pestana Court. Police surrounded the dumpster, launched a drone overhead, opened the lid, and used a police dog to help take him into custody. (kron4.com) Police identified the suspect as Fortino Preciado, 43. Fremont police said he was on parole for a prior resisting-arrest case when he was arrested again on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and resisting arrest. (kron4.com) The case landed in Fremont during a year when the department says it serves 230,646 residents across 90 square miles and handled 297,302 calls for service. The department lists 330 employees on its city website. (fremontpolice.gov) Fremont police do not currently have a matching press release about the April 20 arrest on the department’s public news page, which on April 23 listed traffic, public-safety, and administrative updates but not this case. The department does maintain a weekly blotter and other transparency pages for selected incidents. (fremontpolice.gov, fremontpolice.gov, fremontpolice.gov) Preciado was booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, according to KRON4’s report citing Fremont police. The arrest closed a chase that started on a sidewalk and ended with officers pulling an armed suspect from a dumpster. (kron4.com)
