Singapore's Ma Der Kin Khao Opens
Singapore's new Ma Der Kin Khao on Beach Road is gaining traction for its unique Thai culinary focus among local foodies. The restaurant represents the latest addition to Singapore's evolving street food and neighborhood dining scene. Food enthusiasts are spotlighting it as a notable discovery worth checking out for authentic Thai flavors.
Ma Der Kin Khao, which translates to "come eat" in the Lao language, is a recent addition to the Beach Road dining scene, having opened in late 2025. It occupies a space in the City Gate mixed-use development, joining other well-regarded eateries in the area. The restaurant distinguishes itself by focusing on the intertwined cuisines of Isan, a region in northeastern Thailand, and neighboring Laos. This specific culinary niche is not widely represented in Singapore, offering a unique set of flavors to local diners. Diners can expect a menu centered around traditional, home-style recipes. Signature dishes include Soop Pak Lao, a salad of blanched greens and mushrooms with a fermented fish sauce dressing, and keng no mai, a fragrant bamboo soup. The menu also heavily features charcoal-grilled items, such as grilled pork cheek (kor moo yang), and a variety of spicy salads and stir-fries. Main dishes are affordably priced, with many single rice dishes costing around S$9-S$10. For groups, the restaurant offers a set menu for four at S$60, which includes five sharing dishes like tom yum seafood soup and a whole steamed seabass.
