Microsoft Exec Retires After 35 Years

Microsoft's EVP for Experience + Devices, Rajesh Jha, is retiring after 35 years, triggering a leadership shakeup in the division. This transition highlights the importance of succession planning and stability during periods of change, especially in big tech.

Rajesh Jha, Microsoft's EVP for Experiences + Devices, will retire effective July 1st, after 35 years with the company. CEO Satya Nadella has been working with Jha on succession plans for some time, and Jha will stay on in an advisory role to ensure a smooth transition. Jha's departure marks a significant leadership shift as he oversaw key products like Windows, Microsoft 365, and Copilot. Four leaders will now report directly to Nadella: Perry Clarke (President of Microsoft 365 Core), Charles Lamanna (President of Business & Industry Copilot), Pavan Davuluri (President of Windows + Devices), and Ryan Roslansky (CEO of LinkedIn). This eliminates a layer between product execution and strategic vision, creating a flatter organizational structure. Microsoft is also promoting Jeff Teper to EVP, and Sumit Chauhan and Kirk Koenigsbauer to President roles. The transition aims to accelerate AI integration across Windows, Microsoft 365, and Surface hardware. Microsoft's priorities around the Secure Future Initiative (SFI), the Quality Engineering Initiative (QEI), and Copilot remain unchanged. The company will finalize the organizational structure by the start of fiscal year 2027 to minimize disruption.
