Red Wings Reacquire Perron
The Detroit Red Wings have reacquired veteran winger David Perron in a trade with the Ottawa Senators. Perron, who had a productive stint in Detroit previously, is expected to provide leadership and offensive depth as the Red Wings push for a playoff spot. The move comes as NHL teams make final roster adjustments ahead of the trade deadline.
This marks David Perron's second tour of duty in Detroit. He previously played for the Red Wings in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, tallying a combined 103 points in 158 games before signing with Ottawa as a free agent. To bring the 37-year-old winger back, the Red Wings sent a conditional 2026 fourth-round draft pick to the Senators. That pick can become a third-rounder if the Red Wings make it to the second round of the playoffs and Perron plays in at least half of the first-round games. In 49 games with the Senators this season, Perron has registered 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points. He has been sidelined with a sports hernia since January 20th but is expected to return to the ice. Perron is in the final season of a two-year, $8 million contract he signed with Ottawa and is slated to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. His contract carries an annual cap hit of $4 million. This move provides the Red Wings with a veteran presence as they aim to make the postseason for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
