Google Cloud and CVS Health Partner on Healthcare Tech

CVS Health and Google Cloud have announced a strategic partnership to "reimagine health care consumer engagement." The deal signals a deepening push by big tech into the health sector, focusing on leveraging cloud and data analytics for patient experiences.

The partnership establishes a new CVS Health subsidiary named Health100, which will build and operate the AI-native engagement platform. This platform is designed as an open ecosystem, intended to integrate with various pharmacies, providers, and insurance carriers, rather than being a closed, proprietary system. The platform's core will be "agentic AI" to create an "always-on" personal health partner for consumers. The technology stack from Google Cloud includes Gemini multimodal models for processing diverse data types, the Cloud Healthcare API for interoperability, and BigQuery for data analysis. Key stated goals for the user experience include providing cost transparency to reduce out-of-pocket spending and eliminating "stressful health care homework" that hinders medication adherence. The system also aims to elevate the role of pharmacists by serving as a digital channel for pharmacist-led care management. Leading the initiative are Tilak Mandadi, EVP and Chief Experience and Technology Officer at CVS Health, and Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud. Mandadi emphasized that the platform is "grounded in responsible AI principles," while Kurian noted it creates a proactive experience that general-purpose AI cannot match. This move aligns with CVS Health's previously stated strategy to become a technology-enabled health platform, moving beyond its retail and pharmacy roots. The company has been vocal about embedding AI into its core architecture to unify experiences across its Aetna, Caremark, and retail segments. For Google, this partnership represents a significant step in a long history of healthcare initiatives, which includes the acquisition of Fitbit, the development of Google Care Studio for clinicians, and multiple reorganizations of its "Google Health" division. The initial launch for the Health100 platform is slated for 2026. A first look at the consumer experience is expected to be shared at "The Check Up," Google's annual health event in March 2026.
