A 26-year-old former Navy sailor is accused of killing two women and critically wounding a man in three attacks across DeKalb County and Brookhaven on April 13. (abcnews.com) Police identified the suspect as Olaolukitan Adon Abel, a U.K.-born U.S. citizen who lived in a shared PadSplit house in Panthersville and is charged in DeKalb County with two counts of malice murder, aggravated assault and gun offenses. (abcnews.com) Roommates told The Associated Press that Abel left the house shortly after midnight after a late-night screaming argument over how cold he kept the home with the air conditioning running. One roommate, Angela Britton, said the house was “freezing.” (abcnews.com) Authorities have not announced a motive, and local reports said investigators were still trying to determine whether Abel knew any of the victims. Fox 5 Atlanta reported police believe at least one of the attacks may have been random. (fox5atlanta.com) Investigators said the first killing happened around 12:50 a.m. outside a Checkers on Wesley Chapel Road, where 31-year-old Prianna Weathers was shot to death. The medical examiner later identified Weathers as the first person killed in the spree. (abcnews.com) (11alive.com) About an hour later, a 49-year-old homeless man was shot multiple times while sleeping outside a Kroger in Brookhaven, Police Chief Brandon Gurley said. He survived but was listed in critical condition. (abcnews.com) The third attack happened about four hours after the first on Battle Forrest Drive, where 40-year-old Lauren Bullis was shot and stabbed while walking her dog. Bullis worked as an auditor for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the agency and local outlets said. (wsbtv.com) (ajc.com) The case widened on April 17, when federal prosecutors charged Abel with illegal firearm possession and charged Damon Marquis Yarns, an Atlanta-area homeless man, with buying the handgun prosecutors say was used in the attacks. The Justice Department said the gun was recovered at the scene of Bullis’ killing. (justice.gov) 11Alive reported Abel’s Navy record shows he enlisted on November 24, 2020, served in Illinois, Florida and California, and separated from the service on September 6, 2024. The station also reported a DeKalb warrant lists a San Diego County conviction dated October 25, 2024, for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. (11alive.com) Roommate Lakisha Mckinzie told the AP she had complained to the landlord after Abel allegedly touched her inappropriately in March and knocked on her door late at night. PadSplit did not respond to the AP’s request for comment about whether it knew about the complaints. (abcnews.com) Abel waived his first court appearance on April 14, according to WSB-TV, as neighbors and roommates tried to make sense of attacks that began with a household argument and ended in killings spread across more than one city.
