TECNO Unveils AI-Powered Smartphone Series at MWC

TECNO is set to debut its new flagship CAMON 50 smartphone series at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. The launch will focus heavily on the phone's imaging capabilities and a broader ecosystem of AI-driven products, signaling the company's strategic push into artificial intelligence.

TECNO's focus on artificial intelligence is part of a "Practical AI" framework introduced in 2024, designed to bring useful features to consumers in emerging markets. The company's AI assistant, Ella, is a key part of this strategy and has been upgraded with enhanced contextual understanding and integration with apps like WhatsApp. In 2025 alone, TECNO processed over 500 million user requests through its AI, with about 100 million being image-related tasks. The CAMON series has a history rooted in camera innovation, beginning in 2015 with the CAMON C5 and C8 models that targeted enhanced low-light performance. This focus has evolved over the years to include AI-enhanced photography, making the series a popular choice for content creators in its target markets. The new CAMON 50 will feature flagship Sony camera hardware combined with a dedicated AI processor. Specific new AI camera features include Super-Zoom FlashSnap for capturing high-speed action without shutter lag and AI Auto Zoom for intelligently framing subjects. Beyond photography, the phone is positioned as a "Creative AI Hub," offering an AI Art Gallery and a productivity tool called One-Tap FlashMemo. This AI push extends beyond the smartphone to a wider ecosystem of devices. TECNO is also showcasing its MEGABOOK laptops, AI-enhanced smart wearables, and a cross-device solution called OneLeap at MWC 2026. The company has also announced a strategic partnership with Tonino Lamborghini, which will result in co-created products like a gaming mini-PC and a limited edition smartphone. TECNO is a brand under Transsion Holdings, a major player in the global smartphone market that ranked fourth in shipments in the fourth quarter of 2024. Transsion is particularly dominant in Africa, holding over 40% of the smartphone market share there. The company is also expanding its presence in other emerging markets like Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The company's strategy emphasizes localization, with significant investment in adapting AI for regional languages and cultures. TECNO was the first to integrate the Hausa language and has improved recognition for African-accented English and French, even providing offline capabilities for these languages. This focus on tailoring products to local needs has been a key factor in its success.
