Navy's Robinson Draws All 32 Teams

Landon Robinson's Pro Day performance included a 4.78-second 40-yard dash, 30 repetitions on the bench press, and a 32.5-inch vertical jump. At 5-foot-11 and 291 pounds, his combination of speed and strength is a rare commodity for an interior defensive lineman. He also participated in the East-West Shrine Bowl, where he was coached by Cincinnati Bengals defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery. Robinson's athletic prowess has been recognized for years; he was named to Bruce Feldman's annual "Freaks List" in The Athletic for his incredible strength, having been documented squatting 665 pounds and benching 465 pounds. He was initially recruited as a linebacker before transitioning to the defensive line, and even contributed on the kickoff team, a rarity for a nose guard. Historically, a professional football career for a Naval Academy graduate has been difficult due to mandatory service commitments. Only a handful of Midshipmen have been drafted in the last few decades, with the most recent being safety Rayuan Lane III in 2025. Past players, like Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach, had to complete their military service before embarking on their NFL careers. A recent policy change may pave the way for Robinson. The National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2025 includes a provision allowing up to three graduates from service academies each year to be transferred to the Selected Reserves, enabling them to pursue professional sports careers immediately after graduation. This reverses a previous policy that required a minimum of two years of active-duty service.
