Amazon buys into consumer robotics

Amazon acquired Fauna Robotics and also picked up Rivr as it pushes from warehouse bots into consumer and last-mile robotics — a clear signal Amazon intends to expand household automation beyond Echo and Ring ( ). That likely means future Astro-like devices will lean into more advanced mobility and in-home automation tasks (menafn.com).

Amazon confirmed the purchase of New York–based Fauna Robotics late March 2026, with Bloomberg reporting the deal closed the week of March 24, 2026. (bloomberg.com) Fauna’s flagship Sprout measures about 42 inches (3.5 feet), began shipping to research partners in January 2026, and the startup had raised at least $30 million from investors including Kleiner Perkins, Quiet Capital and Lux Capital before the acquisition. (bloomberg.com) Fauna’s roughly 50 employees, including co‑founders Rob Cochran and Josh Merel, will join Amazon’s Personal Robotics Group and the company will continue to be referenced as “Fauna, an Amazon company.” (bloomberg.com) Amazon announced the acquisition of Swiss robotics spin‑out Rivr on March 19, 2026; Rivr is best known for a wheeled‑leg delivery robot designed to climb stairs and operate on uneven terrain. (techcrunch.com) Rivr had raised about $25 million, was last valued near $100–110 million, and counted earlier investments from Amazon’s Industrial Innovation Fund and Bezos Expeditions — details that underpinned Amazon’s strategic interest in doorstep and last‑meter delivery testing. (techcrunch.com) Amazon said Rivr’s technology will be trialed to test robot doorstep delivery and to explore operational safety improvements for delivery drivers, following Rivr pilots with partners such as Veho that aimed to scale to dozens of bots.
