Top shooter hits portal

Milan Momcilovic — described as one of the top three‑point shooters in the country — has entered the NCAA transfer portal, immediately raising interest for programs needing perimeter scoring. (on3.com)

Iowa State forward Milan Momcilovic entered the transfer portal on Sunday while also declaring for the 2026 National Basketball Association draft. (espn.com) Momcilovic is a 6-foot-8 junior from Pewaukee, Wisconsin, who averaged 16.9 points and shot 48.7% from 3-point range in 37 games this season. ESPN reported he ranked first nationally in 3-point percentage and fifth in total 3-pointers made. (cyclones.com) (espn.com) He announced the move in a social media post and wrote that he is “turning my full focus to the NBA Draft” while entering the portal and keeping the goal of being in the 2026 draft. Iowa State coach T. J. Otzelberger said Momcilovic “needs to focus on what is best for him and his family.” (espn.com) The portal entry gives college programs a rare chance to pursue a proven high-volume shooter with size. Momcilovic made 136 3-pointers this season after making 63 as a sophomore and 61 as a freshman. (espn.com) The timing lands in the middle of the men’s basketball transfer cycle, which opened on April 7. Players now have a short spring window to enter, so high-end scorers who become available in mid-April can quickly reshape roster plans. (cbssports.com) Iowa State went 29-8 this season and reached the Sweet 16 before losing 76-62 to Tennessee on March 27. The Cyclones also beat Kentucky 82-63 in the second round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament. (cyclones.com) Momcilovic had several of his biggest scoring nights late in the season, including 34 points with eight 3-pointers against Cincinnati and 28 points with eight 3-pointers against Arizona in the Big 12 tournament, according to ESPN. Those games helped cement him as one of the most productive perimeter scorers now available. (espn.com) His departure adds to Iowa State’s offseason turnover. ESPN reported that four-year starting point guard Tamin Lipsey and All-American forward Joshua Jefferson are also leaving, though both exhausted their eligibility rather than entering the portal. (espn.com) The next step is split between two tracks: draft feedback in the weeks ahead and recruiting calls from portal contenders now. For teams that need shooting, Momcilovic’s name is now one of the first to circle. (espn.com)
