Mistborn TV Adaptation Progresses
Brandon Sanderson provided an update on the Mistborn (Nacidos de la Bruma) TV adaptation for Apple TV+, noting "good progress" on the project. The adaptation was previously secured by Apple TV+ as part of their broader push into fantasy content. Meanwhile, a Mistborn deck-building card game by Devir is set for an April launch in Brazil, with localized card previews already generating buzz among fans.
The road to a "Mistborn" adaptation has been a long one, with the rights first optioned by Paloppa Pictures back in 2010. That initial attempt failed to secure studio interest, and the rights reverted to Sanderson in 2014. In 2016, DMG Entertainment acquired the rights to Sanderson's entire Cosmere universe in a significant deal. However, specific progress on a "Mistborn" film remained slow, and DMG's option eventually expired in 2020. A more recent and promising film project, which had been in development for five years and even had stars attached, was scrapped in late 2024. The project stalled due to creative differences; studios that were interested wanted script changes that Sanderson and his partners were unwilling to make, leading him back to "square one." Sanderson has been vocal about the need for creative control and his cautious approach to Hollywood, especially after seeing other fantasy adaptations struggle. His deal with Apple TV+ for the entire Cosmere universe reportedly grants him an unusual level of involvement, including writing and producing roles. Apple TV+ has been making a significant push into the science fiction and fantasy genre, building a slate that includes ambitious projects like "Foundation," "Silo," "Severance," and "For All Mankind." The acquisition of the extensive Cosmere universe is seen as a major step in establishing the platform as a key destination for genre fans. The "Mistborn: The Deckbuilding Game" is developed by Brotherwise Games, known for titles like "Call to Adventure," and was designed by John D. Clair. The game was released in North America in November 2024. Devir is responsible for the Brazilian launch of the game, which includes localizing the product for that market. The game features both competitive and cooperative modes, allowing players to either fight each other or team up to take on the Lord Ruler.
