Miami's Creative Hubs: Wynwood & Design District

Wynwood's transformation from warehouses to a vibrant arts district began in the early 2000s, driven by developers like Tony Goldman who saw its potential. Goldman's vision included attracting artists and creating open-air street art installations, now a defining characteristic of the area. The Wynwood Business Improvement District supports the area's growth, hosting events and promoting local businesses. The Design District evolved similarly, spearheaded by Craig Robins who curated a blend of art, architecture, fashion, and dining. Robins focused on collaborations and infrastructure to ensure the district's staying power. Founder meetups at locations like The Moore Building have become a regular feature, fostering connections within Miami's entrepreneurial ecosystem. Vizcaya Gardens, praised by Solon Angel, is a National Historic Landmark attracting over 400,000 visitors annually. The estate, built by James Deering between 1914 and 1922, features a main house with decorative arts and ten acres of formal gardens. A $20 million gift from Ken Griffin is supporting the revitalization of Vizcaya Village, potentially opening Villa Serena to the public.
