AT&T Announces $250B Infrastructure Investment
AT&T announced a massive $250B investment to expand fiber and 5G networks across the US.
AT&T's plan will focus on expanding fiber, 5G home internet, and wireless networks across the US, including rural areas. They're also planning satellite expansion through collaboration with AST SpaceMobile. This aims to provide "always-on connectivity" to support AI, cloud computing, and other data-heavy services. The investment will be spread over five years and includes both capital investments and operating costs. While the exact allocation per year isn't clear, analysts estimate it could be around $50 billion annually, significantly higher than the $20 billion spent in both 2024 and 2025. AT&T also intends to hire thousands of technicians in 2026 to support this expansion. This move comes as AT&T celebrates the 150th anniversary of the first telephone call. CEO John Stankey stated that current federal telecommunications policy is creating an environment that makes this investment possible. The company aims to connect more than 100 million customers with unmatched coverage through its fiber and wireless networks.
