Multiple Food Products Recalled for Contamination
Several food and supplement companies have issued recalls due to potential health risks. Riverside Natural Foods recalled its MadeGood granola bars due to contamination, while Gusto Group Inc. recalled shrimp paste. Separately, moringa capsules linked to a Salmonella outbreak were traced to dozens of countries, and the FDA warned that oysters sold in 10 states may be contaminated with norovirus.
- The recall of Gusto Group's [Klong Kone] Shrimp Paste was initiated after a report of four children becoming ill with diarrhea and elevated blood lead levels. The paste, imported from Thailand, was distributed to retailers in Iowa and New Jersey between April 2023 and December 2023. - The MadeGood granola bars were recalled by Riverside Natural Foods due to the potential presence of a piece of metal. The recall impacts eight varieties of the granola bars produced between January and November 2024 and distributed in Canada, the United States, and other international markets. - The Salmonella outbreak linked to moringa capsules has been attributed to an extensively drug-resistant strain of the bacteria. The recalled Rosabella brand capsules were sold nationwide online through various retailers, including Amazon, TikTok Shop, and eBay. - The oysters contaminated with norovirus were harvested by Stellar Bay Shellfish in British Columbia, Canada, between December 22, 2025, and February 4, 2026. The recall was initiated after 11 people in Washington State reported norovirus-like symptoms after consuming the raw oysters. - Food recalls are classified by the FDA into three categories based on the level of hazard. A Class I recall, the most serious, is for products that have a reasonable probability of causing serious adverse health consequences or death. - When a food product is recalled, the manufacturer is responsible for notifying distributors, retailers, and consumers. This typically involves issuing a press release, posting information on their website, and providing instructions for returning or disposing of the product.
