AI Automates PE Due Diligence

DiligenceSquared, an AI-native SaaS platform, raised a $5 million seed round to automate commercial due diligence for investment teams. The platform focuses on rapidly extracting and validating deal-critical data, accelerating red flag identification and market sizing, while ILS secured $3M to automate post-close workflows in PE, targeting compliance and reporting.

DiligenceSquared's $5M seed was led by Las Olas Venture Capital, with participation from Florida Funders, and DeepWork Capital. The funding will support expansion of its AI-driven due diligence platform, which promises to cut traditional due diligence timelines by up to 75%. The traditional due diligence process can take weeks or months, costing firms hundreds of thousands of dollars. DiligenceSquared aims to compress this into days via AI trained on millions of data points from past deals. ILS's $3M raise, led by Chicago Ventures, highlights growing investor interest in automating the post-close phase, where private equity firms face increasing regulatory burdens and investor reporting demands. Legal tech is seeing increased investment as firms seek efficiency gains. The rise of AI in PE due diligence reflects a broader trend of "quantization" of dealmaking, where data-driven insights are increasingly valued over traditional relationship-based approaches. Firms like Bain & Company are also developing proprietary AI tools for due diligence. Early adopters of these platforms report significant cost savings and improved accuracy in identifying potential risks and opportunities. Some AI tools can predict deal outcomes with up to 85% accuracy based on historical data. However, challenges remain in ensuring data privacy, algorithmic transparency, and addressing potential biases in AI-driven analysis. Regulatory scrutiny of AI in finance is also expected to increase. The long-term impact could be a shift in the skillset required for PE professionals, with greater emphasis on data analysis and AI literacy. This trend may also democratize access to sophisticated due diligence tools for smaller firms.
