Fremont police say their Special Response Team is used for “the most complex and dangerous situations” and includes officers, firefighters and dispatchers on call year-round. (ktvu.com) (fremontpolice.gov) The truck was identified in news reports as a UPS vehicle, and the company confirmed to officers that it had been stolen. ABC7 reported the suspect was taken into custody after crawling out from under the truck. (cbsnews.com) (abc7news.com) East Bay Times reported the driver surrendered without violence, ending a standoff that backed up traffic near Interstate 880 and one of Fremont’s busiest commercial corridors before sunrise. KRON4 footage showed armored vehicles and a heavy police presence around the truck. (eastbaytimes.com) (kron4.com) The suspect’s identity and charges had not been released in the initial police statements and news reports on April 23. The standoff ended with an arrest, but the case had not yet moved to a public charging announcement. (ktvu.com) (patch.com)
