Dahlia Bakery Opens in Northeast Minneapolis
Dahlia, a new bakery and coffee shop, has opened in Northeast Minneapolis. Co-owned by Alex Althoff, the shop was one of the most anticipated local openings of the year and is expected to be a popular new addition to the neighborhood's food scene.
- Before opening its brick-and-mortar location, Dahlia operated as a pop-up concept starting in 2022, selling its food at local coffee shops, breweries, and restaurants in Minneapolis. - Co-owners Alex Althoff, Nat Moser, and Sarah Julson all previously worked together at the acclaimed Robbinsdale restaurant group, Travail. Althoff served as the executive pastry chef. - The bakery operates out of a shared space with MN Nice Cream, with Dahlia open for breakfast and lunch from Thursday to Sunday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and MN Nice Cream taking over in the afternoons and evenings. - Dahlia has a no-tipping policy; instead, the prices on the menu are structured to reflect the actual cost of ingredients and labor to ensure fair compensation for all employees. - A notable feature of their menu is the size of their croissants, which are intentionally made to be about twice the size of an average croissant. - The menu specializes in laminated pastries and breakfast sandwiches, with both classic and creative options like a Kimchi Cheddar Danish and a Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Mocha. - As part of a "Dahlia Gives Back" program, the bakery features a rotating specialty latte and donates the proceeds from its sales to a local organization or mutual aid fund. - The name "Dahlia" was chosen by co-owner Alex Althoff, as it is her favorite flower and symbolizes concepts like hardiness, dignity, and creativity that the team wants the business to embody.
