Tesla Cybercab Nears Robotaxi Launch

Tesla's Cybercab, designed for autonomous robotaxi services, is entering final testing stages, with units departing Giga Texas reported. The Cybercab features Braille controls for accessibility.

Tesla's robotaxi program has been running in Austin, Texas since June 2025, initially using modified Model Y vehicles with safety monitors. Testing has progressed to include periods with no occupants in the car, signaling growing confidence in the FSD software. The Cybercab aims to provide mobility for everyone, including those with disabilities. Braille has been implemented on the interior, specifically on the 'Stop/Hazard Lights' button and the door releases, to assist blind passengers. Tesla is aiming for mass production of the Cybercab in April 2026. CEO Elon Musk anticipates a slow start to production, but expects to reach high volumes, potentially producing 2 million to 4 million units per year across multiple factories. The Cybercab is designed to be cost-effective, with Musk estimating a selling price of under $30,000 and operating costs of around $0.20 per mile. The vehicle is a two-door hatchback with only two seats, maximizing legroom and cargo space, and it will feature wireless charging.
