Israel Strikes Iran Leader's Bunker

The long-running "shadow war" between Israel and Iran has now erupted into open military conflict. For years, the two nations engaged in a proxy war, with Iran backing militant groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, and Israel conducting covert operations and airstrikes against Iranian-linked targets in countries like Syria. This direct strike on a high-level leadership target signifies a dramatic departure from that previous doctrine. The recent escalation follows a series of tit-for-tat attacks that began in late 2024. These included an alleged Israeli airstrike on an Iranian consulate in Syria and Iran's first-ever direct missile and drone assault on Israel in retaliation. This cycle of direct military exchanges has shattered the previous norms of their conflict. The strike on the Supreme Leader's bunker is part of a broader Israeli operation that has also targeted key nuclear facilities at Natanz and Fordow, as well as missile production plants. This campaign represents Israel's most significant direct military action against Iran, moving their conflict into a new and unpredictable phase.
