Fintech Firm Basis Reaches $1.15B Valuation

Basis, an infrastructure provider for digital finance, has raised $100 million in a Series B funding round, achieving a $1.15 billion valuation. The investment highlights continued market appetite for platforms that enable scalable and compliant financial products amid a more cautious venture capital climate.

- The Series B round was led by Accel and GV (Google Ventures), with notable participation from former Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein and existing investor Khosla Ventures. Accel partner Miles Clements is set to join the company's board of directors. - This latest funding brings Basis's total capital raised to approximately $138 million. The company, founded in 2023 by CEO Matt Harpe and Mitchell Troyanovsky, previously raised a $3.6 million seed round in September 2023 and a $34 million Series A in December 2024. - Basis provides an AI agent platform specifically for accountants, which automates end-to-end workflows in areas like client accounting services, tax, and auditing. The company is reportedly already working with about 30% of the top 25 accounting firms in the U.S. - The company's technology focuses on "long-horizon" agents, which are AI systems designed to operate autonomously over extended periods to complete complex tasks. Basis recently demonstrated an AI agent that could autonomously complete a U.S. partnership (1065) tax return. - The new capital is earmarked for accelerating platform development, with a specific focus on expanding the engineering and machine learning teams. - The investment round also attracted a number of high-profile individual investors from the tech industry, including executives from OpenAI, Google, Stripe, Amazon, Quora, and Adobe. - This funding occurs as the venture capital landscape for fintech shows signs of recovery, with global investment rising in 2025 after a multi-year reset. Investors are showing a particular interest in B2B fintech infrastructure and companies leveraging AI to create efficiencies.
