Chelsea FC Selects IFS as AI Partner

Chelsea Football Club announced a multi-year global partnership with IFS, a provider of Industrial AI software. The club plans to leverage IFS's AI technology to enhance performance both on and off the pitch. As part of the agreement, IFS will become a Principal Partner of the club.

- The partnership extends beyond shirt sponsorship; IFS will embed its "Industrial AI" technology across the club's operations to enhance performance analysis, operational processes, and strategic planning. The deal runs until 2028, though the front-of-shirt feature is only for the remainder of the 2025/26 season. - IFS is a Swedish enterprise software company that has been gaining momentum in Europe as a challenger to larger ERP providers like SAP and Microsoft, particularly in asset-heavy and complex industries. This partnership signals a strategic move to apply their expertise in industrial settings to the business of sport. - The core of the technology, IFS.ai, is not a generic AI but a platform designed for industrial applications, focusing on orchestrating a company's assets, people, and data. For a football club, this could translate to optimizing stadium operations, managing logistics, and improving the efficiency of everything from scouting to retail. - The IFS.ai platform is architected with a Data Foundation, an Orchestration Layer, and a Copilot. This structure allows for the integration of various data sources (internal and external) and the use of machine learning for forecasting, anomaly detection, and providing real-time recommendations to make informed decisions. - According to IFS CEO Mark Moffat, the focus of their "Industrial AI" is on providing contextual and industry-specific AI to frontline workers, which he believes will lead to the most significant innovation and efficiency gains. This aligns with the broader trend in sports of using AI for everything from personalized training programs to dynamic ticket pricing. - This move is part of a larger technology-focused strategy for Chelsea under its new ownership, which has emphasized the need for operational efficiency and leveraging technology for a competitive edge. The partnership aims to make Chelsea a benchmark for innovation in global sports. - Prior to this deal, Chelsea had been without a permanent front-of-shirt sponsor since their agreement with mobile phone operator Three ended in 2023. The club is reportedly seeking around £65 million ($87m) for its next permanent front-of-shirt sponsor. - IFS has other partnerships in the sports and entertainment world, including with the Big Ten Conference in US collegiate sports, where they are also focused on improving game scheduling and enhancing fan experiences with their technology. They also have a partnership with the Cadillac Formula 1 team.
