Regis Wins First British Title

Renee Regis, 20-year-old daughter of British sprint legend John Regis, secured her first senior British title in the women's 200m at the UK Indoor Championships. She also set a championship record in the process, establishing herself among the UK's top young sprinters.

- In the semi-final, Regis ran a blistering 22.89 seconds, breaking a 36-year-old championship record of 23.07 set by the legendary Merlene Ottey in 1990. Her time was the third fastest ever by a British woman indoors. - She followed up her record-breaking semi-final with a winning time of 22.95 seconds in the final, finishing comfortably ahead of silver medalist Hannah Brier (23.37s) and bronze medalist Brooke Ironside (23.92s). - In a special family moment, her gold medal was presented to her by her father, John Regis, a former World Indoor 200m champion and multiple Olympic and World Championship medalist for Great Britain. - Athletic excellence runs in the family, as her mother, Jenny Stoute, is also a two-time Olympian and an Olympic bronze medalist in the 4x400m relay. - This senior title builds on her previous successes at junior levels, which include gold in the relay medley and individual bronze at the 2022 European U18 Championships, and two silver medals (100m and 4x100m relay) at the 2023 European U20 Championships. - Regis's personal best for the indoor 200m now stands at her championship record time of 22.89 seconds, while her outdoor personal best is 22.67 seconds, set in August 2025. - Her victory at the national championships puts her in a strong position for selection for upcoming major international events in 2026, including the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland and the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
