Alfa Romeo used the 2026 New York International Auto Show to put refreshed Tonale and Stelvio sport utility vehicles in front of U.S. shoppers and signal both will stay on sale through at least 2027. (media.stellantis.com) The show ran April 3 through April 12 at Manhattan’s Javits Center, where Alfa Romeo said the stand’s focus was the new Tonale and Stelvio. The company’s April 13 statement said Tonale gets a redesigned front end, while Stelvio continues with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. (autoshowny.com) (media.stellantis.com) For Tonale, the updates are more specific. Stellantis said the 2026 model gets a restyled fascia with a new concave scudetto grille, three new exterior colors, an available red leather interior, a shortened front overhang, a slightly wider track, and a new Sport Speciale trim with 20-inch wheels. (media.stellantisnorthamerica.com 1) (media.stellantisnorthamerica.com 2) Under the hood, Tonale keeps a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard Q4 all-wheel drive. Stellantis lists an estimated 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 140 miles per hour. (media.stellantisnorthamerica.com) The timing matters because Alfa Romeo’s U.S. lineup has become narrow. The brand’s North America newsroom lists Tonale, Stelvio and Giulia as the current core models, and says the 2026 Stelvio is a carryover while the 2026 Tonale is the one receiving the visible product changes. (media.stellantisnorthamerica.com 1) (media.stellantisnorthamerica.com 2) Alfa Romeo also tied the New York appearance to continuity. In its April 13 release, the company said Stelvio, together with Giulia, will remain available through 2027, a concrete signal that the current generation is being stretched while the brand works on its next wave of products. (media.stellantis.com) That message comes as Stellantis reshuffles management in the United States. On March 5, the company said Dodge chief Matt McAlear also became head of Alfa Romeo North America, effective immediately. (media.stellantisnorthamerica.com) The New York show gave Alfa Romeo a public stage with more than 35 manufacturers and more than 850,000 square feet of exhibits, according to the event organizer. For Alfa Romeo, that meant using a broad consumer show not for an all-new vehicle, but for a visible refresh of the two sport utility vehicles carrying the brand’s sales pitch right now.
