Amazon is moving deeper into weight-loss care with a national program that pairs One Medical clinicians with Amazon Pharmacy fulfillment and same-day delivery. (cnbc.com) The program launched on April 21 through Amazon One Medical, Amazon’s primary care business, and covers virtual visits, in-person care, prescription management, and follow-up treatment for obesity as a chronic condition. (cnbc.com) Amazon’s public sign-up page says patients work with a dedicated provider, get insurance and prior-authorization support, and can fill prescriptions through any pharmacy, including Amazon Pharmacy. (amazon.com) The company says insured patients can get some newer GLP-1 pills starting at $25 a month, while cash-pay oral drugs start at $149 and injectable drugs including Wegovy and Zepbound start at $299 a month. (cnbc.com) Amazon says the medications are available for delivery in all 50 states, with same-day delivery in 3,000 cities and towns now and a plan to expand same-day prescription delivery to 4,500 cities by the end of 2026. (healthcaredive.com, cnbc.com) GLP-1 drugs mimic a gut hormone that helps control appetite and blood sugar. Amazon’s page says they can slow stomach emptying, reduce appetite, and cut cravings, which is why they are used for both diabetes and weight management. (amazon.com) The rollout lands as demand for these drugs keeps rising. KFF said in November 2025 that 12% of U.S. adults reported currently taking a GLP-1 drug for weight loss, diabetes, or another condition, and about half said the drugs were difficult to afford. (kff.org) Amazon is entering a crowded field. Walmart said on April 16 that it was expanding its Better Care Services platform to connect customers seeking weight-management care with third-party providers and pharmacy fulfillment for GLP-1 prescriptions. (walmart.com) Amazon’s pitch is that weight-loss treatment should sit inside ongoing primary care instead of a one-time telehealth script. Its One Medical membership currently costs $99 a year for Prime members, while one-off virtual visits start at $29 for direct message care or $49 for video care. (amazon.com, cnbc.com) Investors treated the launch as a competitive threat. CNBC reported that shares of Hims & Hers Health, Viking Therapeutics, Amgen, and Septerna fell after Amazon’s announcement. (cnbc.com) The immediate test is whether Amazon can turn its mix of doctors, telehealth, pharmacy pricing, and delivery speed into steady refills for drugs patients often need for months or years.
